虽然是老一点的Airbus A300(10几年前还在飞NYC-Santo Domingo这条航线就蛮常坐了),头等舱的座位还可以(比经济舱还大蛮多的,但人体工学设计没有新的机型舒服)。
Or have a bit of luck. Sure, why not (although I'm not sure if they charge you an annual fee if you don't keep an averaged balance over a certain amount or not. Anyway...)
Well, they didn't seem to care~
3月11日 lack of caffeine, or motivation?

HK weekendIt got off to a literally shaky start. About 40 some minutes after takeoff, there was a loud *bang* on the other side of the plane, followed by the plane tilting to the left and the smell much like when a bunch of firecrackers are used up. Then, the flight attendants went crazy running up and down the isles, telling passengers to fasten their seatbelts, and storing away the food carts since we were in the middle of a meal. At this point, the plane started to vibrate vigorously, and me sitting at the tailend it felt like a pretty powerful massage chair for the remaining 30 mins. The highlight was when they told us to break out the lifevest, and let me tell you, it's not so easy to distinguish which side is the front. Then the captain probably figured that since we were now much closer to the coast of Taiwan, we won't be needing the lifevest, but a crash landing might be needed. So at this point the flight attendants walked up and down the isle again, and told everyone "when you hear 'brace, brace', lock your fingers over the back of your head and face down. C'mon everyone, practice this with me. I wanna see you do it." But luckily nothing much happened and we safely landed back in CKS airport, and it was kinda fun seeing firetrucks and emergency vehicles standing by next to the runway.
So after wait a few hours, Cathay found another plane to fly us out again, and after leaving at 1:30pm, I finally checked into the hotel in HK at midnight. I then grabbed 2 pints of beer with Justin at a sports bar in World Trade Center in Causeway Bay, before heading to bed.
The next day I met up with Arthur Wong for some 爆漿牛丸 noodle, and did some stereo speaker and wifi router shopping near 旺角, and we went to IFC later to meet up with Arthur's girlfriend Maria. With the hot weather Justin and I often found ourselves retreating to bars for a quick pint and some A/C. For dinner we met up with some of Maria's coworkers and headed to a 大排檔-style seafood restaurant located above a traditional market in 北角. The food was awesome. Check out the pictures in the photo album.
Sunday was much less uneventful. I walked around alot, and ate alot. When I did the quick checkin at the Airport Express counter in Central, only to find out that my flight was delayed for nearly an hour and half. So I met up with Justin again and grab 2 bottles of Sam Adams (that's right!) at Union Bar in IFC1 before heading to the airport. After we landed in Taipei, as I was walking to the front of the airplane passing the first class cabin, I saw 李慧芬 sitting there with about 8 reporters and video camera crew ready to film. Ah, so what's why my flight was delayed.
A lot of walking and a lot of drinking in 2 days, but it was all good. Special thanks to Arthur Wong and Justin Ko for spending a great deal of their weekend with me. 7月13日 JPM leaves F1So after failing to impress at McLaren, and most likely failing to find a decent offer for next year, Montoya will head back to Chip Ganassi Racing driving a NASCAR. Montoya will be replaced by de la Rosa for the remaining races this year so he can start preparing to participate in a few NASCAR this year to get up to speed sooner.
(hmm... was he sacked?)
I think Montoya will fare better in NASCAR because:
1) F1 cars are basically products of the highest motor racing technologies in aerodynamics and composite materials, and when combined with rules designed to limit the speed of the cars (for safety reason), result in overpowered cars that are quite fragile and largely restricted by their tires. On the other hand, NASCAR is like a big bumping car playground in a carnival, the frames and the sheet metal are designed to take considerable amount of banging, and race tactics often involve little friendly-tapping. The car suits Montoya's aggressive driving style better, and is more forgiving when he confuses his race car with a rally car.
2) NASCAR rules are designed so that the race outcomes depend more on the driver's performance (and luck) and less on the car and the qualifying order, which were already set before the race even begins. The smaller performance gap between different cars encourages drivers who didn't qualify as well to take more risks with less penalty if aggressiveness doesn't pay off. The circumstance is similar to when Montoya was racing in Champ Car.
3) NASCAR is more willing to accept a flamboyant, outspoken driver (see Tony Stewart) who is not afraid to speak his mind while still being himself and speaks corporate sponsorship bullcrap.
4) In F1 drivers are under strict diet programs that involves a menu such as vegetable salad with light vinaigrette dressing, grilled chicken pasta with tomato sauce, and Evian water. But it's well known that Montoya enjoys a great deal of MickyD's BigMac sponsorship.
5) A F-word yelling and throat choking match in public with Tony Stewart is more exciting to watch than the close-behind-door version with Jacques Villeneuve. |
